Great Egret
Taken in late May at the pond on the farm where I live. According to Wikepedia, the Great Egret is a large bird with all white plumage that can reach 101 cm in height and weigh up to 950 g. It is only slightly smaller than the Great Blue or Grey Herons. Apart from size, the Great Egret can be distinguished from other white egrets by its yellow bill and black legs and feet. It also has a slow flight, with its neck retracted.

Gorgeous! I am so jealous that you can get a shot like this. I have been trying to catch the great Blue Herons down on the creek, but they just laugh as they fly away from me.
Kate this is one of my favorite pictures of yours. There is something about the lighting and focus (The Egret so clear and the background so blurry) and it's pure white feathers that almost makes it look angelic. Like an angel was there checking up on you on the farm that day. Makes you appreciate God's great creatures and especially their beauty. LOVE it!
This is such an elegant photo. You are so talented.
Uh - that's nice! I just love those great wading birds!
Cheers, Klaus
