Only the strong prevail
Early Sunday morning, as I walked about the yard scanning the ground for photographic subjects in the frost, I came across these two feathers sticking up. So I got down on the ground and took some pictures, but it wasn't until I looked at them close-up in Photoshop that I realized that the crimson stain on the one was actually blood. And then I realized that the owl who sits in the dead tree by our house nearly every night had gotten a meal. Or something like that.
Don't mean to be gruesome, but it's what it is. Nature, that is.

I love your photos!
I think I could have done without knowing there is blood on the feather. Yet, it is the circle of life...
I know, Deb. Me too. Such is life, though.

Wow, neat! The feathers are beautiful; the blood just makes it real... Have you seen the owl, or just heard him/her?
The circle of life.
Beautiful...
Wonderful photo and feathers, CG. Frank and I tend to keep the feathers that we find. It's amazing how many there are once you start noticing them. Hang on to them! :)
My goodness, this is stunning! I'm glad you noticed these feathers on the ground. What a story they tell! Fantastic photo, Kate!
I feel sorry for the meal, but glad for the owl and it does make a beautiful picture!
*hugs*
Great capture on the detail. Nature is cruel at times, but there is beauty in this shot.....
