A horse is a horse, of course, of course

Photobucket
My husband told me today that he misses the horses and I can sympathize with him. He cared for both Thoroughbreds and Dutch Warmbloods for thirty years and he just wants to be near them again.

So this picture is in honor of him. I took it earlier this year at the horse farm where we resided for ten years. He was Stallion Manager there. And he misses it. As do I.

Apologies to those who remember the old "Mr. Ed" TV show (one of my favorites), because you'll now have that song stuck in your head.

Yes, thank you SO MUCH for the song...

It's a lovely photo, Kate -- such a true portrait of the friendly nature of many horses. It makes me want to run my hand along that beautiful neck, and feel the warm breath from that soft muzzle. I grew up with horses around, and I can only imagine how much he must miss them.

Yes, I imagine that you would both miss them terribly. I know people who work with horses and they live and breathe them. Maybe someday he'll have that opportunity again.

I'd like to say that I'm too young to remember Mr. Ed, but.. alas.. the full theme song is running through my head.

Gorgeous photo. :)

Oh, I have always loved horses. Never had the chance to have one, though. But this photo, with the wind tossed mane...just breathtaking. And if I still have the horse dream years into adulthood, I can only imagine how hard it must be to be separated from them when they've been your life.

Kate, I came upon your website via the Pioneer woman. I love your photos. I am just getting back into photography after about 30 years...used to have my own darkroom setup in my apt. before getting married. Wow have things changed. I think that digital will be so much more fun.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Horses are many things in addition to being a horse. Of all intersections with people, however, the horse is a companion that will follow you if you have a feed bucket or carry you into the forest to slay the dragon. I understand your husband's longing for the horse. I have horses and I hope I can always have one till the day I die. Your photography is beautiful.
